How To Write A Pitch Letter
I'm back after the Easter break and continuing in my series of thoughts on approaching an agent.
Apologies for the two week pause: the Easter school holidays, a writer’s room for a TV show and a house move all arrived in a perfect storm of busy-ness.
Before you send out a pitch letter, you need an idea of who you are sending a pitch letter to. Agents receive hundreds of pitch letters every month and you want to stand out. A no is so easy in the creative industries. You want to ensure that your work, the work you’ve spent so much time is going to the right person. I have heard agents say that they can tell they are being blanket-submitted to by authors who haven’t really thought about who they’re sending their work to. You have to identify the right agents for you. Do some research. Ensure they represent the types of work you’re doing. And tailor each pitch letter to that agent.
